Mitochondria from P. falciparum seen by fluorescent microscopy using Mito-Emerald construction. Images were taken from ring, trophozoites and schizonts stages of Pf3D7 (A) The parasite nucleus was stained by HOECHST 33342 and mitochondria with MitoTracker Red CMX Ros, to demonstrate co-localization with Mito-Emerald. Mitochondria shape changes from small dots in ring stages to an elongated form in trophozoites and multiple mitochondria within segmented schizonts. MitoTracker Red CMX Ros, was used for staining PfPK7 mitochondria (B). In PfPK7, mitochondria starts as an elongated form in ring, then it grows bigger until segmentation in schizogony (B).
