Expression and localization of PfGAP40 in Plasmodium falciparum. Costaining of PfGAP40-Ty with PfGAP45 in ring (R), trophozoite (T), early schizont (ES), late schizont (LZ), free merozoite (MZ), and gametocyte (GC) of P. falciparum. PfGAP40-Ty colocalized with PfGAP45 and Pfs16 around the periphery of segmented schizonts, free merozoites, and gametocytes. In the merged color image, the PfGAP40-Ty signal is green, the antibody specific for the PfGAP45 or Pfs16 protein is red, and the parasite nuclei are stained with 4′,6-diamino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) in blue.
