Role of proteases in invasion and egress. Subtilisin-like proteases (SUB1 and SUB2) are mainly involved in the egress and invasion process. SERA5 is involved in the destabilization of the PV through degradation of its membrane proteins and also involved in merozoite priming through regulation of erythrocyte binding ligand MSP. ROM1 catalyzes the intramembrane cleavage of various merozoite adhesins such as AMA1 and helps in invasion process. Mishra M, Singh V, Singh S.
