PF3D7_1475500 LCCL domain-containing protein

PfCCp proteins are expressed in both male and female gametocytes, but are not present on the surface of emerged microgametes. Indirect immunofluorescence assays using antibodies against either PfCCp1 or PfCCp4 in combination with antibodies against Pfs25 revealed expression in female gametocytes and macrogametes. Double-labelling with Pfalpha-tubulin II highlights microgametocytes that are partly positive for PfCCp1 and PfCCp4. No PfCCp labelling was found on the surface of emerged microgametes (arrows). Similar results have been obtained by labelling with antisera against PfCCp2, PfCCp3, PfCCp5 and PfFNPA (data not shown). Antibodies against PfCCp4 further label gametocytes that are positive and negative for the male-specific protein PfMR5. PfCCp expression is shown in green (Alexa Fluor 488), when combined with Pfs25 and Pfalpha-tubulin II-labelling, which are shown in red (Alexa Fluor 594). PfMR5 expression is shown in green, while labelling of the rabbit-derived PfCCp4 antibody is shown in red. Bars = 5 mm.
