Expression and localization of PfmtRPS12, PfmtRPS17 and PfmtRPS18. PfmtRPS12-3HA, PfmtRPS17-3HA, or PfmtRPS18-3HA was localized to the parasite mitochondrion. A co-staining of anti-HA antibody and MitoTracker is shown. Note that the tubular mitochondrion in trophozoites often becomes artificially “fragmented” after fixation with 4% paraformaldehyde/0.0075% glutaraldehyde. Data shown are representatives of two independent IFA experiments. At least n = 200 parasites were examined in each IFA experiment/ all three localized to the mitochondrion.
