Immunofluorescence assay of HA-tagged PfGBP2. PfGBP2 is expressed in both cytoplasm and nucleus, throughout the intraerythrocytic cycle of the parasites. DIC, differential interference contrast. PfGBP2 is expressed in all the intra-erythrocytic stages (rings, trophozoites, and schizonts) of parasites. Moreover, PfGBP2 displays a diffuse cytoplasmic pattern along with a punctate pattern in the nuclei, predominantly in schizonts. The cytoplasmic localization of PfGBP2 may reveal a second function of the PfGBP2 in the RNA metabolism mediated by its RNA recognition motif region.
