Proteins with ER retention sequences
Table compiled by Jude Przyborski
C-terminal -xDEL sequences are referred to as "ER retention sequences". These sequences actually cause continual retrieval of these protein from post-ER compartments, leading to their accumulation in the ER lumen. Hence, they are called "ER retrieval sequences". Such sequences mediate ER retrieval of soluble proteins only, the signals for membrane bound proteins are more complex, and not so predictive in value.
